Slipping really bad... Bands or converter?

Sorry guys for but Ive got to ask. Just purchased a 94 3500 with an automatic. Ive been busy taking care of a long list of little things like worn serpentine belt tensioner, wheels and tire issues as well as the paint peel thing. So next on the list is the slipping issue. The tranny shift points seem to be at the right time but the thing feels like a bad clutch slipping. It had a new rebuilt tranny put in about 5000 miles ago by the PO and doubt highly if it has been back for its bands to be adjusted? Could adjusting the bands fix this problem or could it be a TC issue? A few nights ago I was pulling a fairly steep grade about 1/4 mile long and I honestly had doubts if it was going to make it. I rolled way off the throttle and crept up slowly. Plenty of motor just slipping in the transmission. Guesses?

I think if I was to venture an educated guess I'd need to know which trans it is, what gear you noticed the slipage in and any other items of interest that might lend a clue to the probably cause.

And here is the crux of your problem. Dodge slipped the hooey out of it's trans to try and keep it alive, sounds counter intuitive, but that's what they did. I would look at the bands/etc, but in all honesty that's why I prefer a stick. Save some coin for a GOOD Converter/VB and I think you will have a different perspective.

Here is my truck a few years ago climbing a 4% with firewood piled up to the rear window with the stock trans and stock power. The stock converter is so terrable that it allows the diesel to rev so far that it starts to hit the rev limiter (de fuel) before it catches another gear, IN this video The pump De-fueled at the 10 second mark all the way until it locked the converter at 36 seconds! I have since upgraded to a Goerend converter and its like night and day!

Wow that video looks familiar! So when you up date to a new converter do you tell them what stall speed you want? Seems to me that the where the power is on this engine that just enough stall to get rolling is all you need? I need to adjust the bands anyway so it will be interesting to see what if any difference that will make...

To be honest it seems to slip through all the gears on a steep incline. If it were a standard trans it would feel just like your clutch needs adjustment, Just slips badly. The more you press the skinny pedal the more you notice more slipping. its a 94 47RH on a 3500. Seems to shift at the right time and hits all the gears on the flat ground just a little sluggish.

Yup, you want a low stall, Dont go to low otherwise it will clunk super hard when you drop it into gear. I got the Goerend 900/400 and its perfect! Here is another video, before and after on a short 20% hill- the lower stall is much more noticable with a load, what you cannot see in this video is that I climbed the hill with much less throttle with the new converter! Another nice this is when manually shifted I can not actually notice a RPM change
