Slight miss

I have a 1994 that I just bought it is a manual with 200k miles. When I picked it up the waste gate actuator had a leak in the diaphram. I pulled that out, wired the gate shut and put a bolt in the boost sensing line untill my new actuator shows up next week. I pulled the catilitic converter out and opend up the AFC to look at the fuel plate. The break off screw had not been tampered with and the fuel plate is stock. I put the plate back in, about 1/6 inch forward of where it was before and backed off the star wheel a little.

The truck has quite a bit more power than before however I am seeing that it seems to have a bit of a miss which could have been there before I messed around with it... or not. If I put it in netural and idle it up to 1000rpm I can feel the truck shake a little. It feels the same as my 24 valve did when you start it up on a cold day and it is not firing good on all cylinders due to being a litte cold. It is not realy bad, but I do notice it. I am not sure if this is normaly how 12 valves run or not. The injectors may be original, could that be causing a miss? Does the banjo fitting on the inlet line to the injection pump have a removable gasket on both sides of the bolt? When I disconected it I did not see a gasket on the bolt head side but did see what looked like a fixed rubber gasket on the pump side of the fitting. I do not see any diesel leaking out of it but could this be leaking air in?

There should be a sealing washer on both sides of the banjo. If you were leaking air starting would be difficult. My bet is that the washer is there, you just didn't see it.

You might have a bad injector. With engine running loosen the lines at each injector one at a time and see if one injector makes no difference when loosened. Be careful, wrap a rag around the injector so high pressure diesel doesn't get injected under your skin.

If you find an injector that doesn't make a difference when the line is loosened trade it with another one and see if the no effect moves. If it does pull all your injectors and have them pop tested.

If the no effect stays at the same injector the problem is likely your injection pump. Some times this can be cured by a healthy dose of fuel additive or biodiesel.

OK, that makes sense I will try that. Just one question, should I do it at idle or rev it up to where the miss is most noticable?
