Scored!!!!

First time here, thought I would brag about my new purchase. 1998 12V 2500 5speed Quad Cab Short Bed 4x4. I picked her up last Friday with 86,723 miles for 13 thousand and change. 1st thing I done was to pull the camper shell off within five minutes of getting home. 2nd was to pull the silencer ring and cut the muffler off. 3rd I cranked on the starwheel to get some smoke. I have had to diesels in the past a 01 24v 3500 5speed Quad Cab 4x4 and a 03 24v H.O. 3500 6speed Quad Cab 4x4 and this has to be the most fun so far. I need to change the fuel filter, it is still orginal. The question I have is when I turned the starwheel up towards the valve cover is this the wrong way to get more fuel/smoke. I'm not really getting the smoke I am looking for or is this do to the fuel filter? I'm now in search of a good 4" inch exhaust followed by a set of guages then a #10 fuel plate. What is the best way to get more air??? By the end of the year I would also like to add 370 injectors. Any input would be great.

You turned the starwheel the right way. You just wont get the smoke you want till you install the #10 plate. Then GET BACK!

I will try to get some pics this weekend. I want to get it cleaned up. Does it matter what company I buy the plate from? Is a #10 plate the same from everbody?

Initially you can slide your stock plate forward and move the AFC cover forward also. Good luck with the truck.

Nice purchase! Everything I want except a LONG bed! Congrats though!

Do you like the 12V over the 24V's you had? And why?

Thanks,
Dave

Where is the stock plate located? Not sure where the AFC is either. Sorry for the questions 12V is all new to me.

As for the 12V vs 24V I'm going with the 12V do to the sound and ease to modify. Plus the cheap factor of modifing the 12V is easy on the wallet. The 03 I had had great power being a H.O. but it was way to quite even with the muffler cut off.

The Afc cover is right behind the injector pump, easy to see. You have to remove the cover to get to the plate and that requires removing the tamper proof screw under the injector fuel lines. On mine I can access the screw with a long handled screw driver in between the lines. Of course you first have to get rid of the tamper proof one.
You can then also slide the cover forward, ie. towards the front of the engine.
Also, on the cover you'll see an allen head screw which is 8mm, this gets you to the starwheel which can be spun forward for better low end results and smoke if you want it.
Just ask for help, someone here is sure to respond.

Max it out!

looser is faster spoolup and more smoke, tigher is just the opposite.. Fuel plates, hmm do a search on fuel plates, Forrest nearing has a 100 in his gallery, and gunracer created a good post on plate grinding a while back.. look them up.. Off basic memory knowledge and both in my glove box (thanks zach!) the zero is flatt, and the 100 kinda looks like a J i think...

PS Stroker smoker, welcome to DTR!!
