Runs and dies!

Just purchased my first 12V( 98). got it from a buddy of mine when he gave up on mesing with it. The truck shut off on him, would not fire back up. He replaced the lift pump, still would not run. Now I own it. Started with cleaning pre filter and bleeding the system. Truckcranked and ran like a champ for 3 days. Coming home the other day the truck started hesitating and died while pulling in the drive way.Now all I can manage is after bleeding the lines the truck will run for 3-4 minutes and begin to fade. Pressing on the pedal will keep it going for a few more seconds with heavy white smoke present, but it will eventually die. Have checked for leaks ,cracked lines and found nothing obvious. where do I go from here????

my 90 did the EXACT same and there was a leak in the line but it was just damp on the line, it wasn't dripping.

sounds like you're running out of fuel or sucking air. it wouldn't hurt to replace the lines to and from the tank you'll be doing it anyway sometime, might as well be when its at the house not in a parking lot...

I was gonna say it was sucking air somewhere and losing prime. Probably the lines. All it takes is one small crack.

Mine does this daily, I start it in the morning, and it runs for about 2 mins, then it dies the same way. However the twist is that it takes me a couple of mins to start it back up and it runs fine. Any ideas there? It is really strange that it dies like it is out of fuel, but then when i finally get it started back up, it runs like a champ. Need some ideas.

another place to look is the fuel shutoff solenoid. Mine started that 2 weeks ago because the boot had rotted off of it and allowed the shaft to get a light powdery rust on it. after a day or 2 of that, it just flat out stopped running until I figured it out.

Check the lines on top of the sending unit. If anyone has been there, they might be the culprit. I replace the sending unit, and ran hose instead of line all the way to the pump.
