Run srw on a drw?
Looking at a 98 quad cab 12 valve 3500 5 spd and was wondering if it is possible to put singles all the way around.
If it is possible, how much wider is the drw compared to the srw in 98?
Was thinking of using some 3rd gen 17"s to fit over the drums and calipers if needed.

yes if you take off front adapters wheels will bolt up. i think back tires will be out a half inch farther but no big deal. wish i had done some measuring and found this out before i went to the trouble of buying and changing rear ends. although i did gain a limited slip and thats nice.

The rear end from the dually will be several inches wider on each side unless it was a cab/chassis truck, then it will be narrower than a regular dually and still a little wider than a SRW truck. I don't know the exact measurements. There is a lot of bad information out there on this subject. If I can flag down a 2nd gen dually I'll get some measurements. I can give you the SRW measurements if you want. I saw a mega cab dually run singles, but he left his front adapters on and bought wheels with extreme backspacing and they still sat way out.
if you just remove the front spacers, the rear will be quite a bit wider. The only real way to do it is swap rears.
If you think about it, it makes sense. On the regular dually trucks, the front tire and inner rear make almost the same track. now take off the front adapter and how much difference would there be front to back? You could always take off the outer rear wheel and run it like that lol I"ve seen that done!

yes both those wheels almost run in same track and both are mounted same direction and are super offset the same direction, so for no more work then it takes take the time to measure before you go to a bunch of work of swapping rears like i did. their is a pic of a truck on here that just changed wheels and removed adapters, i see if i can find it and post it, guy made me feel like an idiot for doing what i did. i would have never believed it would come out as close as it did, but pic. worth a thousand words.

That does not look bad at all!
Here is some info I posted a while ago.
SRW D80 width from a 1997 (drums); 13-3/8" from center of spring perch to wheel mounting surface.
SRW D80 width from a 2002 (disks);..14-1/4" from center of spring perch to wheel mounting surface (in my 1st gen).
DRW D80 width from 2002 cab & chassis (disks); 12-7/8" from center of spring perch to wheel mounting surface. I don't know if the frames are the same width though?
So, anyone have this measurment for a DRW pickup from a 1999 or earlier truck?
I say 1999 or earlier because when Dodge offered the 16x8 factory aluminum wheels, the rear ends got a touch wider and the drums are/look different from my findings.

Your not stepping on toes; just looking for an exact measurment for this 1998 DRW D80.
Based on the picture in the attached thread, it does not seem there is that much difference; or at least not enough to make it look bad.
