My truck just started doing this it will creep up to almost 2700 at the lights
and will shot up to the same when shifting and it will creep up during cruising
the truck sat for 3 months and I just got out last week I did get it stuck in the snow and while spinning the tires in low and 1st it hit around 3500 put I dont see how that could cause this
to explain it better would be like a vacuum leak or a sticking TB on a gas motor
need some help

LOL, that's not a runaway, that's Dodge cruise control......

Sorry, couldn't help but be the wisearse. Check your throttle linkage balljoints, bet they are rusted. I usually use break free on mine, but about any penetrant should work. Also, check to make sure your truck has had the throttle linkage recall done, I know my new 97 has not had it done yet.

 

There are two small bolts on the the bell crank (part where the linkage rod connects) that come loose or one falls out and causes this problem.
