RPM change at freeway speed?
I have noticed that when the truck gets up to temp. and i'm cruising on level ground doing about 65MPH, The truck will "surge" Jump 2 or 300 RPM's from around 1700 to 2100 ( aprox) I checked the tranny fluid and it is VERY clean. Like it was just changed. (I just bought the truck 2 weeks ago) When I'm on an incline it will not do it. Same is true if i'm on cruise control.
Any ideas. Please dont spend TOO much of my money

Sounds like your TPS (throttle position sensor) is on the fritz. However, if this only does it after you let off the pedal, then resume your speed or on an incline it MAY be normal. Usually it will stay in lock-up while cruising on the highway and slight inclines.
I think what you are seeing is it dropping in and out of OD lockup. If it does it this with just normal cruising, then your tps is giving you a little trouble. Do a search and you will get tons of info. They can be taken apart and cleaned, as well as adjusted.
Check out www.dodgeram.org for more info on tps adjustment and testing. Sorry, don't have time to provide you with a direct link, but you will find it and lots of other great info. Kevin

thanks, It only does this on FLAT ground and when i'm holding a steady speed. Like in cruise control. Or just a steady foot. If i let off or get on it just a slight bit, it will not surge.
I will check out the TPS.
OK i just checked my records and found that the truck is throwing a code # 24. TPS voltage too high or low. This weekend i will tear into it and hopefully make repairs. I am VERY glad to hear it's not a definate tranny problem.
thanks!

If you gotta mess with adjusting it you may just as well clean it out too. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...threadid=42649

I took another one off and drilled the two holes, one on top and one on the bottom for drain and cleaned it out with some dielectric fast dry cleaner, then resealed with some silicone, that was three weeks ago and it has performed flawlessly, the guy was describing exactly what you are. I have split them like the above thread mentions also with excellent luck. Goodluck,,Rick

Actually he did the drilling there too, that was the second post.
After looking these over I can see no-way for contact cleaner to get inside these TPS's because of the seal around the shaft so I drilled a 1/16 th hole thru the back side .283 from the bottom lip to be able shoot cleaner into the insides then resealed the hole with silicone

Update. I drilled a hole and cleaned the TPS out. I think this did it. I will give it a few more trips just to be sure. I checked the voltage and i'm getting .27V at idle and 3.4 at WOT. In my opinion it's shifting into 4th a bit late. The RPM's and speed just hover without shifting. Then it's off we go!! when it shifts to 4th. This is NOT at WOT. typical freeway onramp speed's.
