rough idle on warm (not hot) start

Pat explained what I feel is the OP's problem well.
One way that works most of the time to diagnose a warped barrel is to pour cold water on the injection pump when the engine is messing up.
It will usually pull right out of it.
Sometimes just filling up the tank will also pull them out of it when the cold fuel cools down the pump.

You will know for sure if warping is the issue by removing all the DVs and looking for scoring on the barrels.

My 3500 experienced this problem when it only had 12,000 miles on it and still under warranty.
I stopped counting how many times it went to the dealer before they finally replaced the pump but it was at least ten.
I must have hit every dealer on Interstate 5 between Seattle and Los Angles before one finally got it right.

With the cold water deal.. the motor does it when it has cooled off to about 100-140 degrees after being fully warmed.. so by this time the pump is well cooled off (about an 1.5 of sitting cooling off)
I will certainly try it though.
I never knew of this warping issue, thanks for the help!
