retro fit 12v fuel pump to in-tank?
ahoy there!
95 ram 3500--------fuel pump went out on me this AM. bummer. relays/fuses are cool. power is to fuel module in tank. but not at elec. pump which is adjacent to mech. pump on engine block.
dodge does not carry mech. pump assembly and sent me a retro fit to now put the pump in the tank and blocks off fuel plate.
anyone done this. need to get this dude back on the road asap or course.
wow, any help would be rockin!

You might want to look at locating a lift pump from another source. (www.piersdiesel.com) There is ABSOLUTELY no reason to put a 12V LP in the tank - ive never heard of that before.
Have you checked the fuel pressure at the injector pump inlet? While the 12V lift pumps can fail - its somewhat rare.

The Cummins part # for my truck is 3936316!
The "electric pump" by the mechanical one on the block is your fuel heater/pre-filter!
No electric pump on the 12v...no tank pump either!

Carter P/N# M73104, any parts sore should be able to interchange it. The NAPA up here uses Carter so I think they all do not 100% sure on that but pretty sure.

When my 3500 was new I took it in for an under warranty fuel related problem.
Mechanic called a few hours later all excited that he had found and fixed the problem-- they forgot to put the in tank pump in at the factory!
I told him that the diesels weren't supposed to have a pump in the tank and to take it out. Problem with the tank pumps is that when they go out they don't pass any fuel, you're dead on the side of the road.
He had to drop the tank again to remove it.
Sad part was the problem still existed and ended up being a pin hole in the tank pickup hose.
He had to drop the tank one more time.

Sounds as though they send you a 24 valve retrofit kit. Replaces the Carter electric lift pump mounted on the engine with an in tank pusher pump.
