replacing the oilpan/gasket
hi fellas
im justin...yep a 1st genner. my friend has a 94' 2500 he picked up for 500 from a town garage...what find.
anyways his oilpan and gasket are shot and he wants me to help him replace them. i know on my 92 the cummins bolts to an aluminum crossmember is this the same with the second gens? whats invovled in changing out the oilpan and gasket? are we better off cutting the crossmember and welding it back together or can we loosen the motor and trans mounts, radiator hoses and jack up the motor to give us enough clearence to remove the oil pan? btw his is and auto 4x4...is there enough clearance for his bellhousing or do we have to jack up the cab too.
just wondering i havent looked at what were up against yet
thanks for all the help

First time I did it I removed the fan and shroud, unhooked the intake line from the turbo and the other side, took both water hose off the one side, loosened the engine mount bolts then picked up the engine till it touched the cab.
No picture, but there are 4 bolts that hold the pickup tube to the block, 2 in the front on a flange and 2 on the side that keep it from vibrating. Take the bolts out and drop the pickup tube in the pan and the pan should then slip right out. No reason to do a hack job by cutting the cross member out of it.

This is for a pan in a 1st gen, but you'll get an idea.
