replace torque converter? other mod?

I know this question has probably been asked a thousand times but, I am new to the whole auto tranny subject. I have owned my truck for two months. I know a friend of the former owner that told me when I bought it that it had a rebuilt trans and shift kit installed. It shifts very firm through all gears at about 2200 to 2500. If I am accellerating quickly uphill or just punching it, I think that the torque converter is shuddering for just a couple of seconds upon shifting to od, then it goes away. If I am taking it easy on the acceleration it doesnt shudder at all. It just does it going up hill or when I am punching it. What can I do to fix this? I plan on switching torque plates when my guages arrive and I dont want to find out that I could have prevented a blown tranny if I just had repaired or modified a lesser expensive part.

have your tranny pressures checked, but it sounds like your converter is giving up

You can try calling DTT or you can try calling Dave Goerends and see what they say. DTT is a little closer to you so the choice is your, but I would recommend you call both.

I have a 95 with the same problem. It shudders a bit when you are leaning on it shifting into OD, but shifts fine when you are driving it normally.

I think you are feeling the effects of incorrect fluid. Do you know what fluid is in it?
It may be as simple as adding THE CORRECT additive.

I changed my trans fluid just a few thousand miles ago with ATF +3.

What additive are you referring?

If you want the auto to last! Don't be leaning on it when the tc is trying to lock up!!

first why dont u slide ur plate back into stock position then try some lube guard as suggested...usually the combination is mercon/dexron 3 with a bottle of the lube guard should help with the shuddering

Thankks

I have to drop the pan to install the temp sender unit for my tranny temp guage. So, when I do it ill put in the correct fluid and the black additive. When I checked the fluid It seemed to be a bit overfull, does this cause a pressure problem? I sure hope its not the torque converter giving up. I have talked with the previous owner and he assured me that it was replaced when he did the shift kit. I currently am not leaning on it anymore when the converter is trying to lock. (I really want to though) If it is the t.c. I really hope he has the receipt. If not I guess I'll be trolling e-bay for a triple disc.
