Remove engine with or without trans?
Just wondering, about engine removal procedure. It should be out today, about all thats left is the trans/bellhousing, mounts.
It looks like it is probably easier to remove the engine with the trans, then seperate, but I d like to hear what works best before I guess.

Toss up
Taking the whole mess out gets rid of a few steps under the truck (8 bolts to drop the bell housing and a few wire bundles) and lining up the input shaft with the clutch/pilot bearing but you are looking at a big chunk of equipment with the housing-tranny-transfer case all stuck to the back of the motor. Guessing 1500# with the added benefit of being unbalanced as well. I would leave the tranny in the truck with a jack under it to move it a little and support it with the engine out. just my two lincolns, cd

thats what I was thinking but I m not sure if the engine will come out without the trans? Ie. if the engine will come up far enough to clear the pan, and at the same time pull forward enough to clear the clutch...I m just getting started on it for today, if I dont get it out today, it will surely be ready to pull for tomarrow.
