THERE IS NOTHING DIFFERENT WITH THE RED DYED DIESEL!!

I worked at TORCO fuels not to long ago, installing new feed lines. I watched them take the red dye and dump it in REGULAR #2.

ITS ALL THE SAME!!

It mostly is.
The only difference besides the dye is that offroad can legally be 500 ppm sulfur while onroad is limited to 15 ppm.
Most suppliers now only carry 15ppm in both on and offroad just to simplify things.

red fuel

Here in western NC the state DMV officers stop and check all diesel vehicles. It aint worth the risk, fines run into the thousands. Valk

Regardless of if it is the same, it is ILLEGAL to use in a vehicle registered to operate on public roads.

You do what you want, but I wouldn't advertise my desire to commit a federal offense on a PUBLIC forum.

Some of it is as infidel said, but some of it isn't, I know for a fact that the red we have out here in Wyoming has a much higher sulfur content than what you can buy at the pumps. 250ppm here if i am correct.

And I'm not sure what the dilution rating on it is, but our pusher our here told me that 1 cup of red can die up to 100 gallons of regular diesel to the point where you will be fined if caught. Someone correct me on that if i'm wrong though...that was just hearsay.

yer full of crap. fed regs make anything for sale illegal over 15ppm. red is the same fuel w/a dye in it. itll run in any truck anywhere anytime of yr. same thing that come out of the truckstop tanks.

you guys are so full of crap. do an internet search. ask the cummins experts online.

as for the fines its dependent on state but if you go to the d.o.t. site you can be as informed as you like. all the info about it is on there. there sure aint no 10000 fine.

Wow! How many deisel vehicles are there in your state? That must be one busy guy.

You can legally run red fuel IF, and it is a big IF, you have paperwork in hand to show you have paid the taxes that have not been assesed during the normal pump sale of fuel. And the officer can still reject that paperwork and let you show that to a judge, which can be quite an expensive day for you.

I've heard of some folks dumping a bit of trans fluid in there to help lube things up. Bad idea. Trans fluid has the red color that they're looking fo plus has friction modifiers that tend to make things grind away in a fuel system. I have also heard of folks adding two cycle oil to thier tanks, and I've seen red two cycle oil, so if your going that route, you better check the color before you dump that in.

In the long run, it's just not worth risking running red fuel on the road. Period. (my opinion)

fed regs make anything for sale illegal over 15ppm.
Not, quite, you're years ahead of your time...

from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultra-low_sulfur_diesel

"Ultra-low sulfur diesel was proposed by EPA as a new standard for the sulfur content in on-road diesel fuel sold in the United States since October 15, 2006, except for rural Alaska. California required it since September 1, 2006, and rural Alaska will transition all diesel to ULSD in 2010. This new regulation applies to all diesel fuel, diesel fuel additives and distillate fuels blended with diesel for on-road use, such as kerosene, however, it does not yet apply to train locomotives, marine, or off road uses. By December 1, 2010, all highway diesel will be ULSD. Non-road diesel transitioned to 500 ppm sulfur in 2007, and to ULSD in 2010. Locomotive and marine diesel also transitioned to 500 ppm sulfur in 2007, and to ULSD in 2012. There are exemptions for small refiners of nonroad, locomotive and marine diesel that allow for 500 ppm diesel to remain in the system until 2014. After December 1, 2014 all highway, nonroad, locomotive and marine diesel produced and imported will be ULSD."

It will run fine in the ISB (Interact System B Series- Cummins name for the 24v engine) it's just illegal in a registered truck. Unless you pay the taxes.

The law is any vehicle that is registered to run on road can't run red fuel even if it never goes on road.
