Pyro gage works...sometimes

I have all Autometer gauges and my Pyro has never worked right. When I first start the truck I have to smack the side of the gage to get it to work but it just springs right up to 1050 and stays there. On a good day, when the moons are aligned, the gauge will work properly and fluctuate with throttle like it should. I thought it was the gauge at 1st because I have to smack it but I also kinda felt like it was the thermocoupler because it would only fluctuate sometimes like it wasn't getting a reading. Any ideas before I just get fed up with it and replace it all?

Check all your connections. My Isspro was acting up and reading way low. I found a dirty connection where the leads bolt together. Took it apart, cleaned it up, and re-connected it. No more problems.

I did that. The idiots that owned it before me cut off the eyelets connecting the lead wire to the sensor wire. I got rid of that and wired it directly. I am still having the same problem.
