In a nutshell guys,

while changing out my fuel filter yesterday i noticed the prefilter for the first time, and well i can almost assure that it has never been cleaned out.. I know that the part numbers are

Dodge dealers for $42 Part number 04762962.
Cummins/Fleetguard for $6 Part number 3845400-s.

I was reading up this procedure and it seems easy enough to do, and now that i see it needs to be done at 12K mile intervals, what benefits can i gain or will i notice from doing this?

I did mine after 100k and there was nothing in it? Glad I did it but dont think I will do it again. I guess it would matter where you get your fuel?

 

12k is way too offen. Both my trucks have been done twice and were clean.
Over 200k on both of them.

 

My truck with over 200,000 had quite a bit of black chunky stuff in it. Don't know if it had ever been done before.

 

210,000 probably should check it eh?
