Pre Filter/Heater Electrical smoke

I smelled an electrical/plastic burning smell. Pulled over and sure enough there's plastic burning smoke coming from the plug on top of the pre filter/heater. Truck runs fine, but as soon as you turn the ignition on the smoke starts. I drove it straight home, not really knowing what it was at first. Anyone had this problem before. I recently serviced my truck, just like normal, oil-oil filter- fuel filter. I didn't do the prefilter though.

Just wondering if anyone thought it might be something more serious or if it's a simple malfunctioning plug. The plug that I'm seeing the smoke come from has two wires into a harness that is held to the top of the filter housing with 2 small allen screws.

Don't know why this happens but, it seems to be fairly common, mine did the same thing about 14 months ago. Unplug if you can or cut out the plug going to your fuel heater. remove pre-filter/heater scrap the heater it'll probably allow air into the fuel system replace it if you want or just leave it out the common consensus is that it's useless. Put it back together minus the fuel heater if gasket is still good. Under the hood there are two plugs left of the master cylinder one goes to the tps I believe and the other goes to the fuel heater have to out to my truck to verify which is which.

Leave it disconnected or remove the heater entirely.

Your info doesn't say were you live but it's in a place that gets cold I would replace the heater not just bypass it. I haven't driven my 94 yet but the 93 would clog up filters with wax very quickly in the winter when it had a filter relocation bracket that moved it farther from the heater. They didn't put it there for no reason in the world of cutting materials to save 2cents you can bet you *** if it didn't do anything it wouldn't be there. Now if you live in a place that never gets below 20F go ahead and bypass it just keep in mind it's not there if you ever get into -30 weather.
