Power steering fluid pouring out under cap
Hey guys, I have a 1998 Cummins 12V, 5 speed manuel,4x4 dually with 141,000 miles on it. My problem is I have power steering fluid coming out from under my reservoir cap while im driving and after I turn the engine off it still comes out for a little bit.I make sure it was filled to the proper level but I can take the cap off and the fluid will pour out over the top and I have to refill every other day! My 4 wheel drive will not engage half the time which is recently and when it does the front end will pop a few times. My cruise control will not work half the time for the past year and when its 25F or lower in temps the steering and the brakes make a loud moaning sound.I have been told I need to replace the power steering pump and then I have been told the vacuum pump is bad....Anybody have any ideas? Thanks

it sounds like a PS pump problem to me. does a 98 have a hydroboost or vacuum booster. if its a hydro unit vac pump will only run heater ducts and CAD. which could possibly be the source of the noise when u try using 4x4. a hydro unit is run by PS pump if the steering and brakes make the same noise the its a hydro unit. when it overflows is the fluid aerated with lots of air?

Thanks guys, I searched all the vacuum lines and found one line coming from the vacuum pump to the firewall with severely dry rotted connections on both ends. I repaired those and filled the power steering back to correct levels and so far (knock on wood) no fluid is pouring out. The real test is this week when its suppose to really cold and a big snow storm coming in.....I'll keep you all posted. Thanks again
