Post Test Drive Questions
Well I went and drove a 97 extended cab this evening. 4x4, 5spd, 118k.

It rode and drove good, no leaks or anything that I could find. The only thing that I noticed was a little rattle when I let off the pedal in 5th. It sounded like it was coming from around the turbo. So I am asking the experts. I am pretty knowlegeable about the 24v, but don't know as much about the 12v. Is it something? Nothing? Quirk?
It also sounded like the radio (cheap aftermarket) was not mounted real well. And the shifter ***** rattled a little. But for an almost 10 year old truck it was remarkably well maintained. The salesman said it was owned by an old man. It looks like it (the seat covers, the horn was broken and moved to a push button on the knee panel, weird little things looked like an old man truck) No fifth/gooseneck. No brake controller.
Oddly it has a 6 round connector on the factory reciever.

Love the truck. The truck seems to be virginal, IE not towed to hard with, I would ask about the KDP, take a good look at the front alignment as well. Chances are the KDP is still in there. The rattling u speak of by the turbo on fifth gear, i wouldnt know my truck has never done that.
Best of luck and hope it works out well for u

I am betting the KDP is not done. It dosen't look like the engine has been touched, except for routine maintinance. It's at a dealer, so I doubt they really know about it's history...
