that swap could end up costing what a decent 2nd gen would go for. So think it through and try to price out ALL the parts u'll need, down to every bolt and wire u need because it can add up quick. If u keep ur eyes peeled u can find a decent 2nd gen for 4k or so, it will be 2wd though, so i dunno if thats a problem.

my friend just got a 95 that runs great (especially with the fuel plate "adjustment") picked it up for 4500 bucks. you just have to keep an eye out for a good deal, it will show up.

See if you can pick up a rolled dodge. Then you have all the neccesary parts for it in one place. It sucks doing a swap and having to do a run around for little parts. And those are usually expensive.

I thought pretty hard about putting a cummins in my old 99' f350 stroker and after talking to several people I found out it was going to cost some big $$$$$$$$ plus a lot of little expenses that no one thinks about, so I just found a 95' 2500 and have never looked back, You can find some good deals on 94's and 95's you just have to look, I saw a 94' 2500 4X4 5spd reg cab flatbed w/ 240k go for $4000 and it ran out fine, it wasnt perfect but it was a good base vehicle to start off of, it just needed some rust fixed, paint, and tires, I was going to buy it but I stumbled around and it sold. There out there just keep looking. good luck

I found my truck by putting a classified ad on the internet (TDR to be specific, but DTR, Cumminsforum, dieselram, etc will work).

If you go to autotrader and do the search with advanced options you can set it up to search for exactly what you want, I looked on there alot and thats where I found mine. I had it set to search for a 94-98 2500 or 3500 4x4 man. trans. and diesel. Do the search within any distance, trust me a good truck is worth the drive and they are cheaper down south as well as very low rust. I figured I could drive 700 miles to get mine rather than get one around me and have to fix rust spots. I rented a 35mpg car for like $65 for a day and dropped it off when I picked mine up then drove my new truck home and it worked out pretty nice, just be sure to bring a small selection of tools with you in case something would happen. good luck with your search man
