No towns to drive around in in my parts where the speed limit is 70 everywhere.
Both trucks consistently get 19-22 empty.

18-19 is where both my trucks sit, generally more highway than anything. City driving doesn't seem to bring it down, but doing short drives and on and off seem to be eating up the fuel. I've put 100km on since I arrived in town for work in 9 days. That seems to be the one downside to being 5 minutes from work, can't even get the truck warm.

I have been getting 15-16 with mixed driving to and from work and around town. The highest I ever got was about 19 empty on the highway. With my slide in camper it is 14-15.

My 93 gets 20 all day long, the 95 5 speed work truck gets 18, the new 97 auto I just bought gets 20+ in town and hwy (70mph) bone stock, for now!
But the good ol' 07 with the 6.7 gets 15 unloaded driving like grandma drives

These are the figures i've gotten recently.

19-20 mpg hwy at 65-70 mph.

17-18 mpg hwy at 70-78 mph.

14.8 mpg city when I boost about 7 psi from each red light.

13.8 mpg city when I accelerate faster, 10-15 psi boost from each red light.

The more miles you drive before filling up, the more accurate your fuel economy calculation will be. If you do a 100 mile trip and fill up, that doesn't really tell you anything. So I can see how people have gotten crazy things like 25 mpg (I have too once). What you really want to know is the overall fuel economy of your truck over thousands of miles. That's what you're paying.

I get 14-16 around town.Closer to 16 with summer fuel and closer to 14 with winter fuel.Highway driving at a steady 65 I get 20.if I slow that down to a steady 60, I get 21.I'd probably do better at 55, but I can't stand to drive that slow.I pull a 25' 4000 lb+ travel trailer and average 13.5.

My 95 will get 25+ mpg in the summer @ 100km/hr-(65 mph) When I pull my 27 foot 8000lb fifth wheel I have gotten as high as 18mpg.

Lousy mgp

I'm shocked at the numbers reported here! (and jealous)

My 98 5speed got a solid 18 mpg freeway miles on 1000mile trip;
but is consistently getting 12mpg around town mixed driving, with or without towing.
Recently had oil/fuel filter change, has K&N FIPK2 air filter, I buy my fuel from a station frequented by heavy equipment/trucking operators...

I'm in CA but my truck wasn't originally, its a 215hp
and I have a catalytic converter and aftermarket muffler, which I had checked and have been told by a muffler shop is top notch and they reccomended I not change anything for now...

Otherwise I'm bone stock, what gives?

I get 11.3 mpg/US gal. with 11.5 ft. slide in camper on the highway. I set the cruise at 2100 rpm, which is real slow going down the road with 4.11 gears. needless to say....I AM NOT A HAPPY CAMPER!!

With 800+ H.P. on tap, I still get around 15-16 MPG in town (during warmer summer months) and IF I keep my speed down on the Interstates (70-75 MPH) I have gotten as much as 18-18.4 MPG.

12valve only gets 12mpg!

re: getting only 12mpg,
I do have 4.10, and my tires are 285s
and I know you lose mgp quickly when you get over 55, but we drove pretty fast on the 1000 mile trip freeway miles and still got 18mpg...

Unfortunately I'm going to have to put on 265 tires soon, and I think that might help a little with the gas mileage..

After I get gauges, (and I have a beefed up clutch in the garage and ready to go,) I'm planning to do a 3gsk, and fuel plate will that help get more mpg?

Is there anything I can safely do before guages that could help?

barngal6 You might want to check your timing & try a converter test pipe f/a while,we don't have emission checks here so my cat fell off.
