Parts ordered. Now what order do I install them ?

Ok, I ordered my parts the other day. Got Guages, #10 plate, AFC spring kit, KDP kit and 4000 gsk with springs. I know a person should install the guages first but after that is there a certain order that I should be installing these ? And I hear that moving the fuel plate a little makes a big difference. Where do I start with the plate as far as full forward or rearward or what ? Looking for some direction here. Thanks.

The KDP kit is the first thing you should install, followed by the gauges. The rest, I don't think, matter as far as order goes. If you're looking for biggest bang for the labor, probably the fuel plate, slid forward, then the AFC kit and finally the GSK.
I did all of these at the same time, except for the gauges, which were installed first, a couple of weeks before the rest.

I like to install the power mods one at a time after the gauges just so you can see the effect of what you're doing.

OK. Thanks. How would you set up the fuel plate initially? Full forward right away ? What about starwheel adjustments ? Which spring should be used in the AFC spring kit I bought? Thanks.

Start with the #10 in stock location. A steel scribe across the rear of the plate on the AFC housing is a nice reference.
Make sure to check the governor arm http://www.pdrdiesel.com/oldsite/TechLeverAdj.htm
don't forget the boost elbow

Use the stiffer spring from the kit. Crank the starwheel full out, then replace the spring. Crank the starwheel back so it just contacts the spring. Mount the AFC housing full forward on the slots.

Do the governor springs absolutely last (if at all). The 215 hp pump revs better than the auto so you may be happy with just the plate & AFC rework.
