A guy could hook his AFC boost signal line directly to the line that the wastegate gets it signal therefore bypassing the AFC altogether that way you could "gut" the AFC and still have the w/gate functioning. Probably have to adapt the two lines together I think they're a different size but I bet it'd work.

well i did it. using the adjustable boost elbow (closed for now) in the intake to the wastegate tube. secured all openings to the afc BUT did not gut it. power seemed low but alot smoother response with much more smoke. what would the performance be if i now gut the afc ??....would have done it but i cant stand those break-off screws when i dont have the tools to get it off.

Get a long slotted screw driver you don't mind beating on and make a slot or better yet use a long cold chisel. Then what work to bust it loose is an impact driverusing a long extension between the bit and the impact tool
here's the tool or any like tool:http://www.kd-tools.com/1140.htm. That is just one of a few ways the bfreak off screw can be managed. If you took out the lever you'd have instant pre-boost fuel as the AFC would be renedered useless as the pre-boost regulating device, hence quicker spool up and more smoke. If you open the elbow you bleed boost signal to the w/gate thus increasing the boost pressures.

on my stupidity, i found the screw on the back of the afc was flush with the locknut ! not sure when i did this but were should it be ? could this have been the problem ? what does it control ?... i was told years ago that it was the "smoke screw"....too much beer one night i geuss

its not a true 400* variation. i ran a probe pre and post turbo to see as have others and at times under load and boost i saw variations close to 550-600* pre to post turbo.

I think a buddy of mine has the same problem. We first made a #100, then he wanted more power and smoke so we ground her flat, or #0. Well he had more smoke and more power with the #100 than with the #0. So tomorrow in school i was thinking about gutting the AFC but i have never done it before what is involved in gutting it and how is it done. Just wonder we want smoke we do not care about smoke. BTW the truck is a 1994 with an auto. He also doesnt care about the tranny.
