Overflow Valve

Overflow Valve
I bought an overflow valve on ebay and it only has a ball on top to hold the spring in. My question is all the other ones on websites like piers has a bolt in the top does it really need the bolt............. i put it in and it seems to work fine just wondering why it is so different? and i know the bolt on top is for adjustment

hi
i got the same one and it works fine , replased mine just for maint as no history on truck and hi miles .
my old one had the plug and you could remove it and strech the spring for higher fuel psi , or just to clean it ?
