Overdrive Automatic Transmission
I have a '95 RAM 2500 with the Cummins. About three times last month and low speed, thank God, While in overdrive just driving along the thing shifted out of overdrive and the light in the dash button came on. I immediately pushed the button and it went back into overdrive. Has any anyone had a similar problem? Please help!? ???

Re:Overdrive Automatic Transmission

Seems I saw a similar thread not too long ago, you might try a search...

I believe the light will come on and drop out of overdrive if the tranny gets hot. Possible problems include, but may not be limited to- faulty trans temp sensor, bad connection, low fluid (checks hot in neutral you know), sticking cooler check valve.

A buddy of mine has a '95 3500 4x4 V10, and his had a second gear solenoid that stuck, he said, "When it was in first, it was in first and second; when in second, it was in second; and when it was in third, it was in second and third."
He had a major overhaul, luckily it was covered under the warranty.

Often, it seems many little glitches can be fixed by cleaning connections with contact cleaner and adding a dab of dilectric grease. Good luck, and maybe someone else will jump in with some more suggestions.

Marsh welcome to the site! I was going to make a few suggestions but VinDiesel covered most everything pretty well. You can browse through the Faq section too there is stuff there about these tranny's and good luck.

Re:Overdrive Automatic Transmission

I have one other suggestion. A faulty brake light bulb, a loose brake pedal/switch, or a slight short in the wiring harness will sometimes knock the tranny out of OD.
These are remote possibilities, but...
