Orange wire with black stripe to battery?
while replacing my batteries today I noticed an orange wire with a black stripe that was laying in the engine compartment right by the battery. It is factory as it goes to a fuesable link then into the factory wiring harness. It appeard and fit as if it went to the battery and I assumed it did so I just went ahead and hooked it up.
The connection on the end, or possibly even the whole wire just appears to be corroded through. What is this wires funtion, I assum it provides power to a relay of somesort, but what relay? Thanks, Tim

I don't recall an orange /blk going to the battery. Maybe it went to the cruise control actuator under the battery. They tend to get eaten up by acid also. Guess you'll know if your cruise doesn't work.

It comes out with another wire that goes to the battery. By that I mean there are two wires coming out of a harness and one goes straight to the battery, this wire almost "fit" naturally as if it was to go to the battery. I fell almost certain it must have had to go to the battery. I dont know how long or how short it has been disconnected but theres no sign of it being connected to the battery other than it justs feels as if its supposed to go there.
I can say my cruise has worked since I got myt truck and still continues to work.
Another thing is there is a fusable like almost immediately inline as all the other battery wires. Thus signifying its supposed to be hooked to a power source. (they wouldn't but a fuesable link randomly in the middle of a wire now would they?
Anyone have FSM that could look up the diagram for me? Thanks, Tim

What guage wire is it? What kind of connector does it have? Try opening the harnessing loom a little and follow the wire inside to see if the color changes from fading.

Its a thin wire, there is no connector or any sign of one on it at all. it is orangeish yellow w/ a black stripe before it goes into the fuesable link.

I took a look for you. My '95 does have a smaller solid orange wire attached to the + clamp with an eye connector.
Sorry, thumbing though the several hundreds of pages of wiring diagrams in the service manual would be difficult, you almost need to know what the wire does to find anything.

I think he was thinking of the signal wire to the relay. The rear relay has an orange wire if I recall.
I didn't think they had fuseable links after 93..
Sorry, I don't have any suggestions either.

I was referring to the 12V positive that feeds the coil on the heater relay. Book says they are 20 ga. but they are LG/BK on my '98. Those are fused though so they don't come directly from the battery anyway. My service manual doesn't show any other wire directly to the battery besides the 6 ga to the PDC and the 6 ga black wires to the grid heater relays. I'll have my truck in this weekend and if I think of it I'll look at mine.

It comes out of the same harness/loom/tape as the fuel solenoid fuesable link. The fuel shutoff solenoid has a blue fuseable link that goes to a red w/ black striped wire. This is an orange fuesable link that goes to a red wire with yellow stripe... (or some other light color). I have been in there messing around with my fuel cutoff solenoid wiring so i was able to get a better look.
I am trying to make sure that this isn't part of the problem im having with my fuel shut solenoid.
