Opinions on 12 valve timing and mods

I recently purchased a 96 ext cab long bed 4x4 12 valve. I bought the truck with a blown 47re for a deal I couldn't pass up. My plan is to bring the truck back to the streets, and resell it as a much more "sound" then when I bought it.

Issues-
-need to get the trans rebuilt and install
-tappet cover is leaking heavily. Already the entire front end off to do the front frame rails
-front frame horns have some through rust at the sway bar, I already have a frame front section to splice in the frame rails from the engine saddle forward.

So I have a pretty good grip on where I'm going with the truck but...I'm having some trouble deciding what to do as far as performance. I want whoever buys it to have a relatively stock truck...but slightly better in the essence of get up and go.

The truck came with the following mods- ATS arc intake manifold, 0 fuel plate, and gauges. The IP has to come off to do the tappet cover gasket so here's what I lined up.

-3gsk spring
-probably lose the #0 plate and throw a stocker slid forward in.

What do you guys think as far as what kinda timing to ad to the IP when I re-install? And also with the listed mods, what are everyone's thoughts on a single disk converter and a basically "stock" rebuild on the trans.? I have no background with the RE series trannys, I've only messed with RHs and NVs, so I'm weary of what to do in the case of this RE.

Virtually no diff between the RE and the RH, only thing I would say is to replace the Governor pressure sensor and solenoid while you have it apart, they aren't terribly expensive.

Good TC, valve body and band strut along with a quality rebuild will get you there.

Patdaly- thanks for the reply brother. I actually talked to mount holly transmissions in Pemberton NJ today about a rebuild. He said for a stock rebuild with updated seals and new transducer, converter then whole 9 yard would be between $900-1200. I'm probably just going to let them do it for the peace of mind. He came in over $1000 cheaper then most of the other shops. Plus I read alot of good things about him on cumminsforum.

How many degrees of timing would u throw at the pump when it's reinstalled?

I would highly recommend you have your guy talk to Dave Goerend and at least throw the Converter and band strut at it when you do the build. You could always add the VB later, but the other 2 require trans removal.

As for timing, I'm probably not the best guy to ask, but I have it in my head that when I finally do send in my pump, I am going to have them pin it at 15.5 degrees.
