Oil Pressure Sending Unit Location

My new to me '94 12 valver has developed problem with the oil psi gauge. Sometimes it'll fall off past 0,ease on the fuel and it'll pop right back up etc. From reading past post it seems like a problem with the sending unit itself. I'm pretty new to actually working on the Cummins motor so I haven't the slightiest clue where the sending unit itself is. Does anyone have a picture or diagram showing its location?

Also read to get a Cummins sending unit but there isn't any stores around here that carries genuine Cummins parts that I know of so I figured I'd have to go and get one from Mopar(at my local Dodge dealership) What sort of price would I expect for the sending unit from Dodge? There might be a chance that Fleetpride(big truck parts dealer) here in town might carry Cummins parts but don't know if they'd carry them for 5.9s but if they do,do you figure it'd be a good bit cheaper than through Mopar?

Sorry for the long post, but thanks yall

Look on the side of the block just behind the power steering pump, you'll see it.

Your local Cummins distributor will take phone orders and ship you parts. The nearest one to me is over an hour away, so that's how I get Cummins parts. You can find your local distributor on Cummins' website.

When I go to remove this bad boy, being low in the block will all the oil need to be drained or is it simply a disconnect wiring, unscrew old unit, screw new one in,hook it back up and check for proper oil psi? I definately want to get this done just to ease the mind a little then I'll definately check into the KDP because I don't want nothing happening to my wondeful low mileage motor

I just unscrewed mine and put the new one in. No problems.

One little trick. If you look thru the fender well, kinda above the tire, you can see the sensor. You can use 18' or so of extensions, and can change it without much trouble. You'll have to unplug it from the top or bottom.

Just one question how many helpers do you need to hold up those (18' or so of extentions ) they must be kind of heavy and hard to guide!

The oil pressure sending unit is common to all Dodge of the same vintage. I got mine for around $25 from the dealer. Infidel has reported poor reliability of the auto parts stores variety. My first Dodge replacement lasted 28 days which got me a free replacement under the 30 day warranty. Still going after 2 years.

location here

edit: forgot to mention get a sending unit socket before starting the job

Yes. If the gauge is showing low pressure, or the same pressure all the time, a new sender is the fix.
