When I purchased my 94 last month my Oil plug was leaking. I took it off and put some black RTV and fixed the problem. The dealer I purchased the truck from ordered me new plug and I recieved it last week. The oil plug in my truck now has a nut to remove the plug. The new oil plug has a allen screw. How do I figure out which plug is correct???? I am due of an oil change and want to make sure I have the correct plug before I change it. Does some have a part number for the oil plug on a 94 CTD 4 x 4? Thanks.....

Well I have a 96 CTD but when I broke my oil plug I couldn’t but the new one because they made a smaller plug which also meant that I had to pull the engine to remove the oil pan so that I could put the new oil pan in and put my little oil plug on there so it would not leak. That really sucked.

 

The original required a 3/8's inch ratchet to remove. Just the square part of the ratchet drive. I don't think it is the plug that is causing the leak. It is the distortion of the oil pan from improper torqueing and the oil drin plug gasket. Here is a great source for drain plugs for anything:http://www.cgenterprises.com/

Get this gasket and you will be set:

Just the new gasket will stop your leak. Take a look around that website. They have different types of plugs for your truck, including magnetic, and different types of gaskets/material as well. The nylon gasket was the fix for me. I like the magnetic plug as well.

 

These plugs have been know to develop a hairline crack.....causing leaks

Although I don't believe in the valve type oil plugs they are an excellent alternative when the the pan is distorted. Just clean the pan well, goop it up with silicone and never remove the plug again.

 

The new plug I received is the stock plug. The current plug looks nothing like the stock plug. It use a wrench to take it off. And it seems to be to small in diameter. When I took it off to coat it with black RTV it I checked the pan for warping and did not see any noticable issues. And the threads where good on the pan as well. I also just found a piece of paper in the glove box where Wal-Mart had lost the original plug and installed a new one for the previous owner. They installed the wrong one....

Yea dont let oil changers torq your plugs down, I should have known cause i had to bring the motor up and change the oil pan about 3 years ago.
