Oil pan---Difference between 1st and 2nd Gen

A few years ago, I replaced my oil pan in the '96.

It was $75 for the pan and $30 for the gasket.

I have a '90 that the oil pan has a couple dents and a little rust so I was going to change it while I have the engine out.

Called Cummins and they said the oil pan is $500

They are listing the '94-2002 for $112 now. The gaskets are the same part #.

So what is the difference?

I think there is a sound deadening addition to the newer pan...not 100% certain thought.
