oil leak helpppp

have a odd oil leak.

it is directly below the vacuum pump, leaking between the timing case and the block.

i just replaced the seal between the vacuum pump and power steering pump because it was leaking some there but thats definetly not where the majority of oil was coming from, no seepage at all on the shaft from vac pump to psp now.

i made sure all the timing case bolts where tight and its still leaking there.

KDP has been tabbed for 20k ....

guessing its a huge job to pull the entire timing case off for the rear seal between the case and the block.

i didnt "tab" kdp... i used the jig... so i didnt even have the case off... and its on the backside of the case... not the front case gasket, the rear one thats up against the block.

Do a search on vacuum pump leaks. If I remember right there is a leak that can develope there.

anywhere there's a gasket it has the posibility of leaking. could be the timing case gasket against the block or the vacuum pump gasket.

Yes you have to take the timing case off to fix it and it is just as much labor as the repair after KDP failure. I had it happen on my 1998, the timing case bolts loosened over time and the gasket slipped

leaves a 4" diameter puddle within 5 minutes of idling...

going to try putting rtv on it tonite see if i can seal it up enough from the outside.

I would put a new cummins gasket on (between vac pump and block)

takes about 20 mins.

Man, the case is that loose?

Try taking the front cover off and tightening the bolts inside...

Snugging the bolts that hold the case on may help but if the gasket has moved or been damaged it probably won't stop the leak. I hope the RTV does it for you!

Are you sure its not the oil return line from the P-Pump to the engine block that is leaking???.Its also could be a failed oil pressure sender switch which is also located in the area you are describing.....Andy
