Oil leak???????????

Yesterday I was walking around the truck and noticed oil on the inner fender on the passenger side and got under the truck to look and found oil around the main seal and a/c pump and passenger side suspension. So I started the truck and found a small leak at the main but there is oil heavily coated on the pas side I pulled the fan to take a look under no cracked cover. Also it has blown up to the alternator I know the main is not leaking that much.any idea where it could be coming from.Btw I changed the oil today and the oil filter and the area around it was oil free.It seems to be leaking between the a/c pump and alt is there anything there to leak oil?

I agree with the KDP, even though you say it's not cracked, it sounds very suspicious.

If not, the only things I can think of are head gasket and VC gasket, unless there's an oil galley plug back there somewhere.

I haven't done the kdp becouse the last owner said he did it but I unbolted the fan and took a good look at the case. What about the vent tube if it gets clogged what will happen I know if a kubota tube gets clogged the front seal leaks like a sieve will the cummins do the same?Is there anyway to check the screen.

sounds like you have symptoms like i had. thought it was the front seal but it was coming out from around where the crank sensor bolts to the motor. turns out the kdp broke a piece of the cover and was leaking out of there at anything above an idle. to verify i took the fan off and ran at about 1500 rpm to 2000 rpm and that showed were the leak was coming from. hope this helps

Checking/cleaning the blowby screen is easy, two bolts to remove the tappet cover. Problem is the injection pump is in the way and has to be removed also.
When the screen clogs first place to shoot out oil is the dipstick tube.

Well guy I pulled the fan all the way out today after work CRACKED CASE the kpd was NOT done I hammered the case back into shape and put some JB weld on it,what is the price on a new case or a used one. What are they made from aluminum or pot metal maybe I can weld it when I pull the truck out of service and a good excuse to bump up the timing.

The case is aluminum and can be welded. Most often it also cracks on the back side up against the block and has to be removed to weld.
The crack against the block is often very hard to see.
Ebay often has cases for $100-$250.

Here's instructions, I no longer pull the cam, pulling the gear is way easier.

KDP got me couple years ago and made a mess. I bought a new gear case for mine and it was around $300.00 dollars I think. I chose to replace the gearcase as mine was really damaged. The new case from cummins has a two step hole where the KDP is located. The hole is smaller on the outside so the pin can't come out once the cover is installed. Another reason I chose to replace my case is that the injection pump is supported by it and it's heavy. While running the gears meshing try to push themselves apart and I was afraid the case would fail and make a bigger mess.
I chose to pull the cam on mine, lots of work, and I believe that it would be easier to pull the cam gear instead.
I had a bunch of pictures somewhere.
I'll try to find them.

i would also check the gears for any broken teeth by the pin

Go ahead and pull radiator and flush it. Then it will be easier to get to the area you are working on.
