NV5600 conversion question
What is all invloved?
I have a 97 reg cab 2500 5 spd. I sold my 2001 24v BEFORE it could give me any grief.
However, I do miss having that extra gear. I see that one of you guys have done this conversion.
Aside from the weak synchros in the 5600,that extra gear is nice.
If I can locate a tranny cheap, I may do this swap.
Tals to me guys...how difficult is this?

I don't think the swap itself is all that hard, but it will probably be rather exspensive. I don't want to steer you away, but the gearing differnce in overdrive is only 1% different (.74-NV4500 vs .73-NV5600), the big difference is that the 5600 has closer ratios because of the 6th gear. Another thing to think about is New Venture has stopped production of the NV5600 since they lost the contract with Dodge so I would imagine the 5600 is going to be harder to get a hold of.
The main thing needed to do the swap is the larger cross member from the newer truck, clutch, and the shifter assembly. There used to be several companies that had swap kits, but since 5600 production stop the only one I know of that might still sell the kit is http://www.drivetrain.com/
Look under manual transmission, the you should find NV4500 to NV5600 conversion. It should have most of the info you need
Hope this helps...Josh
