Smile nv4500 oil change

Anyone using Redline MT-90 or Amsoil with a GL 4 rating in their NV4500? I can't find the Castrol Syntorq except at the dealer 25+ dollars a quart. I called Standard Transmission and they have gone to Amsoil MTG GL 4. The Amsoil for 4 Qts with shipping is about 64.00. I want good oil but this is crazy. My truck is pushing 96000 and never a change

Thanks for the input on the oil I have read pros and cons about Amsoil and red line but I thought I would go to the people who would know the most every day drivers.

I am rebuilding my nv4500 and the guys at Blumenthal said any syn. 75-90 will work. I asked about Royal Purple and he said that was one of the better ones. $14.99/qt at Oriellys. I have the all brass synchros.

amsoil

well i had the 5th gear nut come loose at 307xxxmi. i figured it was a good time to pull the trans and give it a once over. well good thing i did because the aluminum that supports the shift lever was falling into the trans as it broke off! well i figured that the magnent woundnt pick up the pieces so i replace the bearings checked everything else and bought a reman top cover to fix the aluminum problem and then it was time for oil. well my uncle is a dealer and i talked to him and he assured me that the amsoil will actually keep the trans cooler. so i gave it a try. after the inital fill up, i changed the oil again within the first 500 miles to get anything that i didnt want in the trans out. then bought 4 more qts. of amsoil and its been in there since and have had no problems..no hard shifting,,,no noise,, and driving a 150mi trip i can actually hold the case of the trans without burning my hand... i dont know wat you are more comfortable with but the amsoil works just as good as any...i think so at least...im gunna probably put in all the lubricated cranny in the trucksoon...my2cents

There have been several reports of Royal Purple destroying syncros, takes about 20k miles before they are toast.
Unless you have replaced your syncros with something else they are carbon fiber and very sensitive to lubricant chemistry.

Castrol Syntorq only for me. It's not like you have to change tranny fluid that often, I figure why gamble trying to save a buck.

I personally don't trust everything on ebay, it's full of scamers.
