Not getting a charge from alternator
Not getting a charge from alternator when my truck is idling, but when rpms are around 1800 im showing almost 14 volts. Can I just put new brushes in the alternator or does it need to be replaced by me or rebuilt by a professional

If you have a local parts store that can test the alternator, take it there and see what they say. It's usually a free service. I had to replace mine a couple months ago(in a 97 Ram 2500 12 valve). I wasn't sure if it was the alternator or the regulator. Actually, I removed the alternator at home and took it to the local Advance Auto Parts to be tested since I already suspected the alternator and figured I'd be ready for the core charge when they said it was bad. Honestly, I don't bother with having the alternators being rebuilt any more. It's quicker for me to simply pull it out in the driveway, go get one, then install it. I think it cost me about $175 for one.

I think the voltage regulator is controlled by the computer on these trucks. my truck had the same problem last winter shortly after the tach started acting crazy. re gapped the sensor on the crank pulley and all is good
