no start without bump
let me first start by saying I just recently purchased a 1 owner 97 cummins with 250k for $3000 the truck is in excellent shape with a new turbo new tires and new trans. i feel kinda bad as the dealer told him it needed a new injection pump which would run him over $2500. any way i cleaned the fuel filter and screen and now she runs great lucky me!
so on to my question on startup i have to bump the throttle to get it to start hot or cold after that it starts up fine. it's been in the 20's these last couple mornings so i have had to feather the throttle to keep her going for the first few seconds but after it evens out it runs great. is this normal to have to bump the throttle at start.
thanks
Brandon

What RPM does the truck idle at?
My dually used to idle around 450 or so, it didn't like to start without me resting my foot on the throttle. I bumped the idle up to about 950 in park now, in drive its about 600 or so. I don't have to rest my foot on the throttle any more when starting either.

Mine starts great without any throttle unless it's very cold out and it wasn't plugged in; then it tends to stall without a bit of throttle. After warming up my idle rpm's show around 800rpm when in drive.
