;D THANK YOU!!

Seems to be a common issue. We got 3 pages on this subject!

Bought my truck used, but I doubt it was ever replaced before.

My truck is currently at the dealership waiting for me to pick it up. The service writer told me (get this line of ) "that we don't have the equipment to accurately diagnose what the problem is. Your truck is older than our shop is. It seems to start just fine for us. You may want to take it to (local cummins shop) to have them look at it."

Hope he doesn't expect to charge me anything for looking at it, since he admitted that they didn't have the diagnostic equipment, you'd think they would've told me that when I dropped it off.

Thanks for the pic! Looks like I'm buying a part soon.
Re:No Start condition this morning! 1996 12v

I just bought mine a couple of months ago.
It would turn over a few times before it cranked but it never failed to start. After I adjusted the idle speed it fires right up now. As far as the lift pump I bought a banjo bolt drilled and tapped to 1/8" NPT and bought a gage and fittings and hooked it up on the outlet side of the filter head. the pressure was low so I replaced the lift pump and overflow valve.
The plastic tubing is in the tank...there is a spring coil of it in the pick up assembly...keeps the pickup on the tank bottom. I just finished replacing my fuel level sender that is screwed onto that assembly. I lifted the bed off for easy access...not too bad of a job (and mine is a dually). I would suggest lifting your bed off for troubleshooting around the top of the tank and the pickup assembly. If your fuel gauge is not accurate...try just cleaning the contacts on the sensor. I put a new sensor in mine but I cleaned up the old one and it is still good. You could start by disconnecting the fuel line at the top of the tank and putting air pressure through it and also pressurizing it to look for leaks. I wouldn't want to try that without lifting the bed, though.
sounds like you have done some work on the fuel tank... When i fuel my tank up so it is full, it leaks at the top of the tank where that giant plastic nut is . I think the rubber grommets are bad. Are these hard to replace? Also, how do the lines come apart, do you clip the 'ears' as someone mentioned above?

This pic shows the top of the tank. If you drop the tank or lift the bed off so you can see what you are doing... the clips are easy to release. A strap wrench or 2 people with big screw drivers and hammers working in unison will unscrew the "mason jar" type module fastener without difficulty.
