Did you take the sensor out of the trans? If so, it has to go back in clocked the same way it came out, or it won't work. There are 4 possible ways it can go.

If I remember right, it is clocked according to gear ratio, but its' been a while.

Other thing you can do is loosen the clamp turn the sensor/gear 1/4 turn until the clamp lines up w/a different set of notches, test drive it, see if it works.

If you look on the speedo gear housing/sensor, it tells you where it needs to be (clocked) according to the speedo gear tooth number.
I did the same thing when I did my trans. It takes about 5 mins. to fix.

When the trans went in i never took the vss out of the transfercase, or is there a diffrent sensor that could be wrong? as for the vss i put it in the same as it came out, i will try clocking it tomarrow to see if that works. but the speedo worked when the trans came out. the only things that i added while it was down was lock up switch, springs, and gsk. when your speedo diden't work was that it or did it do any thing else related. also thanks for the replying it has been 3 weeks and i just want my truck back.

Is your odometer working at all? Or is just the speedo not working?

Thank you all for the help. I got it fixed monday just diden't have time to post. It truns out that the pin the needle sits on in the speedo was just broke off enought that the needle was hung up on it, but when i tried a new vss it was not clocked right so the new gauge did not work. must not have been thinking at 2:00 am after working on the truck since 8:00am. now everthing works and have been enjoying the new trans since then. thanks for the ideas.
