No Heat!

I have been plagued with gremlins in my truck for some reason.

FIrst the no-start thing ( which I think is now resolved thanks to you guys)
then the brakes lines went.

Yesterday I have no heat and today the running lights and dash lights went out!

THe heat thing is the most important since it is now -22 celcius.

I have ordered a new thermostat. I hope that is it. If it isn't, does anyone have
any ideas? It seemed to happen all of a sudden and my temp guage is not moving either.

Oh ya,

Has anyone ever done their thermostat before.

It looks like it is behind the alternator?

I recently had this problem and it turned out I was a gallon short on coolant. It would heat for a bit and then turn cold.

Big like turboost mentioned check your coolant level. Is your passenger floor wet? Any fluid leaks anywhere under the hood?

My t stat was stuck open and did not allow my engine warm up. It is easy to replace.

1. Disconnect both negative cables from the batteries.

2. Drain some coolant I usually do about a gallon.(there is a drain valve on the drivers side of the rad.

3. There is a 3/8 square hole on the belt tensioner for a breaker bar release the tension and remove the belt from the alt.

4. Remove the bolt closest to the engine on the alt bracket and loosen the bottom alt pivot bolt.

5. Move alt away from engine, remove three bolts in t stat housing.

Note the the direction of the t stat and seals when you remove them and put it all back together.

The specs for tightening the bolts are 18ft.lbs for the three t stat housing bolts and 32ft. lbs for the alt bolts.

By the way where in the Celsius world are you located?

I agree!!! I just replaced mine last week. BTW, it may take a while for all of the air to get out of the cooling system. I've been driving mine hard for a week now, and my gauge still fluctuates.

Couldn't find any leaks anywhere. Levels looked good. Only weird thing was the coolant in overflow tank was very thick and had sediment in the bottom. IS this normal?

So I replaced the t-stat. I think that did it. Seems like there is more heat just driving around town. I will need to run it harder to be sure. -20 here right now so it takes awhile to heat up anyways.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Next on the list............ track down why dash lights and driving lights shorted out last night!

I installed a winter front on grill, really helps keeps the cold blast of air from the radiator. over head showed -30C last night and the temp gauge on dash stayed right at 90C.

Carolina do a search on this forum about temperature gauge rising and falling. It is very common thing with 12 valves. Mine goes from 150 - 185 while I am driving constantly. Has nothing to do with air in the system...

Nothing to be worried about....
