Unhappy New and need help!!

Okay im new to the forum and i have a 97 2x4 3500 with a five speed. I have a 5 inch exhaust banks stinger plus kit and the fuel plate slid forward. My question i just found out where to turn up the pump but the guy never said anything about any kind of things to watch out for. [EDIT]. I plan on bombing the truck in the future once i can start working again when college lets out. And since i know i will be running out of turbocharger soon i am looking for inexpensive mods and this seems like the last one i can do besides the fuel plate. I was wondering how far can i turn up the pump or rotate the wheel without any problems or how far can i go? Thanks

I dont know if your bank$ kit includes a plate from them, If it did Id probably get rid of it and get a #10 plate or make your factory one into a #100 plate. Also get a set of 3K govenor springs to fuel your truck harder up to 3000 RPM's. As far as turning the starwheel up, its in the AFC housing and increases low boost fueling. Wont add to much HP overall, but will get the turbo spinning faster eariler with more fuel early on. Your clutch is really the limit, SO until you get that taken care of I wouldnt get to crazy

i plan on doing all of that and then some eventually but right now school has got me tapped out. Clutch will be replaced this winter so im not worried about that and so will turbocharger. How far can i turn the wheel or will i have to do it then test it. And if that is the case where is a good place to stop?

Like I said, It wont gain you much HP if any, Fuel will just come on a little sooner. Turning it twards the engine will increase the fuel, turning it twards you will decrease it. Turn it until you notice some black smoke at takeoff (probably a couple clicks) And no point in really going much further then that. To really turn up the pump, you need a more aggressive plate or bigger delivery valves. AFC starwheel adjustment just isnt big time seat of the pants increase

Turn it up full forward

floor it and take off in third and look at ur mirror.... hehehehehe..... That stock plate is a severe limiter..... Time the pump, get a governers spring kit, adjust your governer arm, and ditch that stock plate for a zero (most smoke ) or a 100 plate.. PM northslope.. Pics in my gallery.... enjoy ur new ride and welcome to DTR..

thanx. I plan on bombing but i have to watch it because i show horses. And combined i have a weight of 24000. Like the way the 12v hauls but iv heard that once you start upping the horses the heat climbs rapidly with them. I now understand that this mod only helps turbo spoolup but is it any different with a couple of click or the whool way forward. And will it do anythiung to my overall egts.

I also have the Banks Stinger Plus and a few more add on's. Fill out your sig so the guys have more info.
The Banks did come with a plate that I think is stamped with #7, you also have the 14cm exhaust housing on the turbo. I spun my starwheel up 10 clicks and only get a little smoke if I get on it.It made a bit of differance.
Put a 3k-gsk in it and you will be happy , for now.

Yes..

More fuel will usually equal more heat, You just need more cooler denser air to get those temps down. I run a banks plate.. Pic in my gallery, full froward and have no egts issues, and my starwheel is also maxed too. Smokes alot if i take off in a gear that is too high, But if you take off in low First, you wont have too much smoke if you get the RPMS just right..

Starwheel, lower end grunt is all it helps, nothing on the HP level, just faster spoolup sooner than where it was, Your egts will not climb with wheel full forward that much, alot of that depends on yopur foot, plate positioning, and how muich fuel you have going in there, starwheel is just miniscule in contrast to the rest..

ok thanks for the help. I was never aware that banks had fuel plates. The only things we got back from the installer was the turbo housing and the valve springs. I guess i will have to double check.
