new bee question
I just registered with this site tonight.
I have a 97 Dodge diesel which I bought used two years ago.
I am replacing the trans for the third time. I am pretty upset about the whole thing and am quite disgusted as well. I tow occasionally, bit most of the miles are empty. How common is this?
Any suggestions other than 1000 lbs of dynamite?

Something is wrong if you have gone through that many transmissions. The stock auto may have problems once you start to BOMB, but it is basically a strong unit. I would be checking with your rebuilder/installer.

Get a good rebuilt tranny from one of the vendors in the links page. I am guessing that you have an auto? If so take a look at DTT, ATS, and suncoast. These are all good trannies I have heard. It is probably a problem with the torque converter slipping, known to happen with autos. It may cost a little more to get the tranny but it will last a long time. And it would also be a good idea to get a different tc.

Welcome to the website!
The other members have already given you some good
advice. I would highly recommend the ATS Transmission
to you! I have one in both my 1996 Dodge CTD 12 valve
and my newer 2002 Dodge CTD 24 valve and am very
happy with both of them!
Go to this website and you will find alot of information
on their transmissions: www.atsdiesel.com.
Good luck!

You have been had, they last a lot longer than that. Mine has 100K on it, changed the fluid and adjusted the bands, no more work than that.
As John_P said look at ATS, his truck/tranny combo is awsome!!!
Good luck.
