Need to know if you can make a 47RE in to a 47RH

Can you just change out the valve body to make a 97 RE work in a 94 truck?

Nope, I know the tranny is different size, would bet any amount of money no way to remove the electronics.

I've been looking into this for awhile and i'm not 100% if you can or not because re's don't have tubes for the gov because they are electronic. so if they have the ports for the tubes to fit and just the block off covering the ports then basically you could just put the RH od housing on to the RE housing if you swapped OD. piston retainer (not sure of the technical term drawing a blank) from the RH to the RE trans housing If the ports are there and work which i would assume they are (haven't looked real close) because they have block offs. then you'd have to swap valve bodys. But the biggest thing would be the ports in the trans housing if they are there and if they are open. I'd say it would work.....biggest loss would be pulling the od unit off and the valve body.

Trans is pretty much the same except for the overdrive section which is shorter, all the internal hard parts are interchangeable.

I did it. Mine started out life as a 1996 47RE with a 1993 A518 overdrive section.
DodgeFreak is pretty much dead on.

You need a new overdrive piston retainer that has the holes drilled for the governor tubes, the aftermarket ones have block offs and even if they where there it wouldn't matter, they go under the retainer and you'd have to take it off anyway to get them out. The only problem is thats the first thing you put on the main transmission case when you start building one. You'd have to completely tear it down and put it back together, rebuild it of course while your in there.

Then get or make yourself a bushing to press in the case where the connector comes through, the RE's are bigger than the RH. And a valvebody.

Now, if you wanted to do a manual valve body you would have no problems there.
