Need help!!! Trans question
I'm looking at a 96 4x4 dually that has a rebuilt auto with 60k on it. I'm worried about the trans and was wondering how much it wuld cost to convert it to a 5 Speed. Any help wuld be greatly appreciated.

if i were you i would keep the auto and throw a billet low stall converter and a valve body or transgo shift kit in and you will love the automatic.. mine has almost 400,000km on the original auto and works better than new since adding those parts, and all it did was tow for 7 years..

I agree with the above posters, but when I converted last year it was almost as much as buying a built auto. Used trans from junk yard, all other used parts (shifter, clutch pedal) and new parts like clutch/flywheel, master/slave assembly, and bearings for trans ended up being around 3k. Salvage parts locater (like car-parts.com etc.) was great for finding a complete trans with bellhousing. PM me or search for all the other odds and ends if your interested.

I just had my auto rebuilt with a billet torque converter and a shift kit. It had a massive 2nd gear failure. I haven't towed with it yet but I do like the way it shifts, it is firmer and they set the shift points so it will hold each gear longer which is better for towing.
