Need help with Engine Stand?

Hey guys. This is my first post here.

Im building a 38 dodge pickup rat rod with a 90's 12valve. Im gonna rebuild the motor but before I can, I need to find a reasonable prices engine stand that will work for it. I got a plate already to bolt it to the side but thats it. Here is a link to one I was looking at but I just want to make sure it would hold up to it. I say reasonable cause this is the only reason I will need an engine stand and plan on having it rebuilt in a short time due to having the truck ready for the motor.

I am also paralyzed so if and engine stand that can hold the motor from the rear instead of the side would be alot better for me also. Any and all info is greatly appreciated.

Let me know if you think this engine stand will work? Thanks

That should work. Keep in mind, when trying to turn it on the stand, it is going to be very difficult since there is no bearings in the head, and it will have much overhung weight. With limited use of your limbs, finding an engine stand with a gearbox and a crank to rotate it would be best. But one for a cheap price is going to be another challenge.

I was actually wondering how hard it would be to turn the motor. I found this one also. Would a 1000lb stand work or not? Like I said, I would actually like to hang it on the rear of the motor so I can get to everything.

I'd prefer the first one minus the hard turning or the wide stance. I personally wouldn't use the second one and hang it from the rear. I've got something similar to that and they're tippy (sp). Plus you're going to be pushing the weight limit.

I have a 06 CR motor mounted into a OTC stand right now on both sides and it has a gearbox and crank and it isn't easy to turn over that way. Fully dressed that motor is heavy, and I don't think i would hang it off the back only. I doubt you will be able to turn it over on the stands you are looking at safely anyway. You could probably rent a good stand if you only are going to use it once.

That first stand you posted the link to looks like a harbor freight special. I spent about 110 on mine on sale and it held a fully dressed 12v. Looked sketchy but worked fine. Fully dressed meaning turbo, manifold, pump and accessories. It currently has a fully dressed 7.3 engine on it. If there is a harbor freight by you, I would inquire there.

Also if you know of any good welders they may be able to make you one that would be more easily accessible.

Not at all. Moving the stand around made us feel uneasy but it was on an uneven shop floor. Held up fine.
