My Turbo Whistles Really Loud

Hey there, I just got my truck back on the road after my accident 2 months ago, and at first it was fine, but now the turbo whistles really really loud and high pitched, I didnt take out the silencer ring or anything, and for some reason it is whistling like crazy, to the point where it hurts my ears and I cant hear the purr of the engine no more. What do you guys think, could my accident have knocked something out, or what do you think is wrong? Thanks.

Check all your intercooler boots. My buddy had one partially blown off, and it whistled like crazy.

I agree with a pressure leak somewhere in the boost system, check intercooler for cracks or hose not sealing good..........

Could the accident have moved something in the engine compartment that caused a puncture in an intercooler boot? The two that attach right to the intercooler are especially vulnerable.

What exactly was damaged on the truck after the accident? front end damage? Bumper and/or grille damage? Do you have a boost gauge?.......I agree with what these guys are saying....look for intercooler damage, a torn or loose boot or anything that may affect how well the interior is sealed up from the engine bay.......the turbo can get EXTREMELY loud with an intercooler or boot leak.

Mine made a loud whistle with a different than normal pitch to it when I had bent fins on the intake wheel, you could check that out pretty easy.

Ya it was front end damage, the bumper was bent in, the bumper was pushed against the intercooler, so I am guessing that is it, so I will have to check out all the boots and everything I guess, does it hurt the turbo much that it is doing this? If there is a pressure leak somewhere?

No. It will not hurt the turbo any at all. It will just whistle like that till you get it fixed. As long as nothing that could damage the motor gets through the torn boot, then its fine.

Yeah, check for a bent fin also...the turbo I've borrowed has a bent fin tip, and it whistles like crazy, and really high pitched.

Also keep in mind that any amount of engine coolant geting into the engine oil will cause the turbo bearins to swell. It will whistle very loud if that happens. Could be a coincidence that maybe you have an internally blown head gasket during the time you had your accident.
