My Engine is better!

My friend has a 2003 Ford 7.2 L diesel. I say my 97 turbo cummins is a better engine and performs over the long haul much better.
He can pull more, so he says, but 11,900 pounds for my truck aint too shabby
What else can I throw at him?

"Better" is the product of many variables.
Each variable in the equation is dependent on many other attributes. These attributes can be both objective and subjective.

Thus it can be difficult at best to say which engine is better and may have to answer which engine is better at this task or in that area.

Best thing to do is congratulate the other party for being able to "out pull" you and then continue being happy with your choice.

Some day, you may need to have this person pull you to the nearest shop because your dowel pin came out. A month later, you find yourself pulling him to the nearest shop when his engine ate a glow plug.

Just my opinion.

Dont them big V-8 Ford and Chev Diesels use quite a bit more fuel than our Straight-Six Cummins? And the In-Line Diesels generally have more torque over a comparable size engine in a V?

If your buddy starts giving you too much stuff just ask him how his ball joints are (BAD if he hasn't all ready replaced them) and how much will it cost him to match the torque of your stock cummins. Buy a TST power kit for your truck and realy watch him cry at payment time. You'll be faster, more torque and burn even less fuel.

Where do I start....

I work at a shop that repairs all three brands of diesel pickups. If PSD weren't so crappy, I would't have a paycheck.

Their injection system loves to erode the internal injector o-rings, oil gets in the fuel and gets everywhere.
The glow plug system is junk, fuel heaters burnout all the time.
The exhaust to turbo piping is a joke. There's no gaskets on the manifolds...the manifolds leak, the Y pipes going to the turbo flex, the connections pit, and they leak all making things inefficient.
We've replaced lots of motors for rods or bottom-ends going out. Have you ever seen a PSD rod and a Cummins rod side by side? The Cummins rods are twice as big!

i also know from being a previous psd owner myself that the cummins is much more reliable and powerful. how many medium duty trucks out there have the psd in them ? well i will tell ya none, only the international school buses have those motors and they are not the same. the 7.3 in the school buses have thinner head gaskets and a oil pan that holds 3 quarts more oil than the 15 quart psd. i see trucks all the time with the 5.9 cummins.

I need to preface my post with this: I don't like Powerstroke's at all. I hate everything about the Ford's except the dually bed and wheels, I still think they are the best looking of the bunch.

Anyway, the whole "how many 7.3's do you see in medium duty trucks?" question...

I see "DT466" badges all over the place on medium duty International trucks... mostly wreckers.

Unfortunately, North Carolina seems to be "ford country.. there are 10 PSD's for every Cummins... which is why I'm shopping in Texas for my future 12v!! I know it's worth the drive... and I just found one I'm in love with... Just gotta "Git R done"!!

Eskimo,
466's are 6 cylinders. The PSD is a 444.

6.0 is a VT365. They seem to be OK when Ford engineers aren't involved. The DT466/DT466E is an excellent medium duty truck engine, it's dang near indestructible. At work we've got one in an '85 S1900 with over 500k on it, still fires right up and pulls pretty good, too. Not even intercooled. I hate driving the old Cornbinders we have, Irrational Harvester has (or had, haven't driven a '01 and up yet) the worst cabs. Noisy at all get out, gauges hard to read, switches hard to see and reach, no place to put any personal items or tools, and the HVAC system sucks too. Don't get me started on the DT366, that engine is just
