mpg dually vs singles

bought a 97 3500 4wd 5pd,building flatbed and trying to decide to change to singles or leave duals on. what difference would there be from a dually w/235vs singles w/265 tires has 410s but plan on switching to 354s. how much difference could be expected from duals to singles???? already have a nice set of 3rd gen wheels&tires for it.

The difference will be noticeable. It seems to me like it is around 3mpg. A SRW truck has much less wind resistance and less rolling resistance due to less tire contact.

In my mind, the decision comes down to how the truck will be used. If it will not see heavy loads, then SRW would be the way to go. But if it is going to see heavy loads on the flatbed or a trailer with significant tongue weight, then duals is the way to go. MPG has a direct correlation to monetary value and the value of safety and peace of mind has a more indirect relation, but it is still important.

truck would most likely never have more than average loads on the flatbed, just occasional trailer towing and ive towed loads as heavy as id tow with this truck with my 2500. the daily use just would seem nicer with better mpg and 2 less tires to buy.
