Motor swap done, have some questions
Hey and thanks for looking. My old motor had 361k on it so I decided to buy a motor that had 70k on it and swap it in. The new one is a 95 160hp. I timed it 15.5* installed the washer gov. spring mod removed the fuel plate and afc foot. It is stock otherwise. I had all of this done to my other engine except for the timing. Here is my question my new engine seems to have a much louder diesel rattle i guess you could call it injector knock. Is that due to the increased timing? Also the fuel peddal is much more sensitive. It is like driving with 5k gov. springs in it. I had the washer mod in my old motor and it was not nearly as touchy as my new one is. Could that be caused by more timing advance also.

Ok I have an update. When I removed the delivery valve to set the timing I assembeld it wrong. The part that was put together wrong is in the part that the dv socket goes on, there is a spring with a small piece that fits inside the spring but it has a shoulder on it so that it cannot fall through the spring. I put that piece that fits inside the spring facing down towards the pump. It started to leak fuel from around the dv where it screws into the ip. I took one off of my old motor and compared, that is when I found that I had put mine in wrong. So I removed the dv with the socket and I switched that small metal piece so that it is now at the top of the spring facing the injection line. I hope I am making sense. Now is the problem, there is a knock coming from the ip but only between 2200-2500rpm. In that short rpm range it sounds like something is going to come right out of the side of the pump. Once I hit 2500 the knock abruptly goes away, it runs great. I let off and coast back down to low rpms and it doesen't make a sound. I have a 5sp so the rpms come down gradually. Is my pump screwed? Any input would be great I am about to swap pumps but I don't want to. thanks

bump. please any advise? i am helping diesel dan on this project. i dont think having that dv piece dan talked about in the wrong place hurt the pump any because the clearances would have been the same so nothing would have bound up to mess a cam lobe up in the pump or anything else. but i can be wrong. this is his daily driver and he needs to drive it. i would hate to see somthing really get messed up. please if anyone has any knowledge in the pump department please help. thank you
