Missing my '97 12 valve

I must say after doing a lot of reading on this site I am sure missing my '97 12 valve Cummins I sold to purchase my '00 24 valve. For almost the whole time I owned my '97 I always wanted a 24 valve for the sound, quicker rev-up, and basically more power. Now that I have one I must say I'm pretty concerned. My '97 was a loyal pickup; I never worried about a thing on that pickup. This 24 valve seems to be alright, I just hate the thought of trouble with lift pumps, injector pumps, computers, etc. I wasn't at all aware of the troubles with the pumps on the 24 valves before I checked out this site. The only thing I am thankful for is my '00 doesn't have the dreaded "53" block. Otherwise, I am not as happy as I first was when I got this '00. Sorry for the long post, just had to vent some.

My dad's got a 99 24 valve. The only problem so far was electrical noise causing the tq to lock/unlock. I grounded the pcm and shielded the ground wire from the alternator, he's had it two years.

I really cant sugar coat your feelings about the 24v. I thought that it was all over blown untill many of the posts were mine about problems. I ended up selling mine to buy a 12v and can honestly say I do not regret the move one bit. They are not all bad though, many members have been lucky with there newer trucks. Hopefully you got a good one.

My Dad always used to say "If you worry about being sick, then sooner than later you will be sick." I guess this is not specifically true about a truck, but it could be. I'd personally try not to worry about it, do what you can to monitor things you ought to, and just drive and enjoy it. Life is too short to stew about things in advance that really are beyond our reasonable control.

I guess I should also say that there are things I like much better about my 2000 than my 1997. The leather seats in my 2000 are much more comfortable, the interior is a little more refined in my opinion, and I like the quad-door option. As for everything else I think I was equally as happy with my 1997. It was just one of those pickups that you never had to worry about; I wouldn't have been afraid to drive it anywhere.

I will keep my 12 valve forever. It has everything I want and lacks the stuff I don't want.

I like my 96 so far, I'm just not a huge fan of the interior in comparison to my dad's 2001. I'll be putting newer seats in, and I'll be left with the dash. A compromise I can live with

I figure in a year or two I'll move up to a 98 12v QC anyways
