little power?

I have a 94 dodge with an auto. the gears are 3.55 and its a 4x4 if that matters but anyways my truck seams to be lossing more and more power lately. i could only go over 152 which is a decent hill at 70 unloaded. And today i was driveing on flat ground pulling about 5500 pounds behind my truck and i had to almost have the thing floored to go 65, and when i did floor it it didnt go much faster. I used to be able to tow at 75 with only about half throtal. the truck has a rebuilt injection pump, but the thing does have over 200k. Thanks!

Rockcrawler:

Welcome to the website!!

The power problems you are having with your 94' Dodge
CTD could be many different things. I would start with
checking ALL of your hose connections into and out of
the intercooler. Check to see that all the clamps are tight
and that none of the individual hoses are cut in anyway.
When was the last time you changed your air filter?? If
that is real dirty, you could be losing power there.
When was the last time you changed your fuel filter?
A clogged or dirty fuel filter on a diesel engine can
also cause low power problems.

Next, I would look at the overflow valve on the P7100
fuel pump. I have had a couple of those go bad on my
truck and that can hurt power also.

You didn't say how many miles you have on your truck
but getting into more serious stuff, your lift pump may
also be going bad. Another "symptom" of that is usually
a hard starting condition, but they don't always do that.
Have your fuel pressure checked. You should have around
30 lbs. at idle and no less than 25 underway.

Check some of those things and let us know what you
find.

--------
John_P
Re:little power?

thanks for the post. The truck has a rebuilt injection pump which i just put in about 6k ago. It also has a brand new lift pump. the fuel filter has about 6k on it to. Now the air filter i havnt checked in about a month but it looked fine back then and the little gadge hasnt moved. The truck has over 200k on it. I will check the intercooler and other things but what is a overflow valve? and were is it? When i put in my lift pump the truck ran like crap untill i removed a check valve and then it ran good again, if that has anything to do with it. The truck start great i barly bump the starter to get it going. Thanks

When you looked at the check valve on the supply line it looked to me to be checking the flow the wrong way (it was one that was supplyed by CFI injection, not the original)... hope that helps someone with the Jason

Chris
