which line is fuel return?
I have to start a 12 valve tomorrow morning and have no fuel lines to the tank. I will be using a fuel can under the motor. I would think that I need a return line into the fuel can as well?
If the lift pump is not functional can I plumb a electric pump inline or do I need to reroute the lines from th lift pump?
thanks

More info , why do you say no fuel lines to tank , what do you mean by fuel can under motor , are you planing on not using the stock tank ?
An electric pump could work , but needs the same pressure & volume , 26 - 36 psi , about 55 gals per min .
the return line is on the main pump near the front , and on the motor side of the main pump , do not remove the line there , that bolt is the Over Flow Valve , it controls the pressure to main pump , follow line till it changes to hose , then thats where you want to have the return go into can .

The tank is full of water. Fuel can under the motor to keep me from dumping it over while working on it. If the lift pump is not working I need a pump to get the fuel into the injection pump. just thinking out loud. I want to be ready for any scenario

Oh now its a marine engine .
I would disconnect the fuel line going to to the main pump , then use the primer pump to flush what ever may have gotten that far , into a glass jar so the you can see any contaminants .

no it's a truck engine that had been vandalized while in a repair shop. I got it to run using a electric pump. pain in the neck! that little preformed hose on the lift pump/prefilter was bad so I used a piece of garden hose. I guess it was sucking air thru the crack n the hose
thanks again
